Home Call Our residents take call from home. They get plenty of experience in acute care, emergency room care, and enjoy a balanced family life.

Mission Trip Scholarships

The residency runs a non-for-profit, tax exempt organization called the Rio Grande Valley Medical Missions ( that provides funding for mission adventures around the world.

Life in South Texas

We enjoy a year round temperate climate and we are a mere forty minutes from the beautiful beach of South Padre Island.   Why would I want to live anywhere else?

Our Hospital

The Valley Baptist Medical Center is a 500 bed state-of-the-art hospital with all the bells and whistles need for great resident training.  Complete with the physician's lounge and migas every Thursday.

Our Clinic  Our clinic is a 13,000 square foot free-standing facility across the street from the VBMC emergency room. We see an average of 100 patients a day, 29,000 visits per year. We provide comprehensive care for 18,000 patients. 26% of our patients are children, 10% are OB/GYN, and 17% are geriatric patients. Clinical procedural capabilities include colonoscopy, treadmill stress testing, OB ultrasound, colposcopy, laryngoscopy, minor surgery, spirometry, audiometry, tympanometry and more. The clinic is paperless - 100% of our patient records are maintained electronically with Internet access in every exam room and at every resident work station.

Annual Retreat

Our residents and faculty head to Lake Corpus Christi every September for a family retreat that includes swimming, high ropes course, basketball, hiking, fun fellowships and worship times. This team building adventure is an important time of spiritual renewal.
