“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7) This beloved verse of mine represents one of the greatest strengths of VBFP. I can think of no other program that allows its residents to serve our patients in the clinic as well as in the community. By working with our patients to improve their personal lives, we are able to work together to improve their health and spiritual wellbeing.

The love and kindness that VBFP shares with others is what convinced me that VBFP was the right program for me. They offer a healthy mix of autonomy and guidance for their residents that I feel will make me the best physician that I can be. I only have one life and I want to learn all that I can so that I may serve my future patients, just as VBFP does.

VBFP residency is filled with people that love God and seek to glorify Him in our lives. Training as a resident is often very busy and it is sometimes difficult to seek God first, but being around fellow brothers and sisters that pray with and encourage one another makes it easier. It reminds me that I can do nothing apart from Him. John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

Favorite verse: Hebrews 12: 2-3 “looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

I like this program because it is an excellent environment for growth as a person and physician. It is a dynamic program that is always increasing in learning and education, with an active emphasis on strengthening our spiritual lives, work ethic, knowledge, medical practice, and family. Everything from morning reports to Bible studies is all part of the great experience one can have in this program. Every day I think to myself, “What a privilege to be in a program with such great leadership and examples whose main focus is to train me to be the physician healer that God has called me to be.” I truly enjoy every day and opportunity I have here in this program. There is no doubt that training here will make me a physician with God-centered values able to handle everything within my scope of practice all with an eternal perspective in mind.

Favorite verse: 1 Timothy 6:12

While I was born in Belfast, N. Ireland, I grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I am very excited to be in a program where I feel I can grow not only as a physician, but also as a person. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be in a residency that treats the whole person rather than just the medical symptoms while in a very supportive learning environment. It is also wonderful to be so close to the beach! I have always been passionate about primary care medicine and I believe my background in public health gives me a unique understanding of factors that affect medical outcomes. My other passions include dogs, interior design, crafting, trying new foods, gymnastics, Oklahoma City Thunder basketball, and photography/photo editing. To me, serving the community is more than a responsibility; it is a blessing I hope to receive my whole life through my medical practice.

Favorite bible verse: “Let all that you do be done in love.” (1 Corinthians 16:14)
